Packaging design that fits the structure

Design work that starts from the dieline and the product, not from a mood board applied to a stock box.

Rigid Boxes with Inserts produced by The Retail Packaging

Structural design

Structural work decides whether a pack survives its journey and whether the product actually fits. We build the dieline from your product dimensions and weight, choose a construction that suits how the pack will be handled, and specify inserts where the contents need holding still.

Where a product is unusual, we prototype before tooling. A cutting die is the expensive part of a packaging programme, so structural errors are far cheaper to find at sample stage.

Print artwork

If you have a logo and a brand direction but no packaging artwork, we can build it. If you have existing artwork designed for a different size, we can adapt it onto a new dieline without the distortion that comes from scaling a flat design.

All artwork is produced on the production dieline with correct bleed, safety margins and colour setup, so it does not need reworking at prepress.

What we need to start

Product dimensions and weight, the quantity you expect, any regulated panel content, and your brand assets in vector form. If a logo only exists as a low-resolution image, say so early — recovering or rebuilding it is straightforward but takes time.

A logo and a product is enough to start. We will tell you honestly whether the artwork you already hold can be adapted or needs rebuilding.

    Questions about packaging design work

Do you charge separately for design?

Structural dieline development is included with a production order. Print artwork creation is quoted separately based on the number of panels and SKUs.

Can you work from a rough sketch?

Yes. A sketch plus accurate product dimensions is enough to begin structural work. Print artwork needs brand assets in usable form.

Do I own the artwork you create?

Yes. Artwork produced for your packaging is yours, and we supply the print-ready files on request.

Can you adapt artwork to a new size?

Yes, and it is better than scaling. A design rebuilt on the new dieline keeps type sizes and margins correct rather than distorting them proportionally.

    Do you provide 3D visuals?

We can produce a rendered visual of the finished pack for internal approval. It is a representation rather than a colour-accurate proof.

    How long does design take?

Structural dielines are usually ready within two to three business days of confirmed dimensions. Print artwork depends on scope, typically five to ten business days.

Can you design for several SKUs at once?

Yes, and it is more efficient. One structure serving several printed variants removes a tooling cost from every additional design.

Will you check artwork I produce myself?

Yes. Our prepress team reviews every file regardless of who created it, checking bleed, resolution, fonts, colour build and cut lines.

Do you handle regulated panel layout?

We lay out the panel with the content you supply and confirm it is legible at the required size. Confirming the content itself is legally correct remains your responsibility.

What file formats do you deliver?

Print-ready PDF for production, plus editable source files on request.
