Jewellery boxes are judged on the inside

The interior holds a small, valuable, easily scratched object and has to present it convincingly. Everything visible on the outside is secondary to that.

Pendant Boxes from the jewellery boxes range, printed to a custom specification

The insert is the product

A ring slot that is slightly loose lets the piece move and scuff; slightly tight and it is awkward to remove in front of a customer. A pendant pad that does not hold the chain lets it tangle before the box is opened.

These are fine tolerances on small parts, and they are the difference between a box that feels considered and one that feels cheap regardless of what it cost.

Lining material matters more than board

Jewellery is soft metal and stone against a surface. Velvet, suede-effect and satin linings each feel different and each mark differently over time, and the choice affects perceived value more than the outer board does.

Send the piece if you can. Chain weight, clasp size and stone height all affect the cavity, and none of them are reliably captured in a description.

Specification

Choosing a Jewellery Boxes Specification

Materials

  • 1200gsm greyboard with printed wrap
  • 1400gsm greyboard
  • Specialty textured wrap paper
  • Linen-finish wrap
  • Soft-touch laminated wrap

The wrap paper and the insert do the work. A well-fitted pad matters more than the box print. Our guide to packaging board and film grades compares them on strength, print quality and cost.

Printing

  • Offset-printed wrap
  • Digital-printed wrap
  • Screen printing on wrap

Run length usually decides this. Digital wins on shorter quantities because there is no plate cost; beyond that, offset and flexo overtake it on price per unit.

Finishes

  • Foil stamping
  • Embossing
  • Debossing
  • Soft-touch lamination
  • Spot UV
  • Edge painting

Finishes are applied in the same production run. Each one adds a step, so we price them individually rather than bundling them into the base rate.

Applications

  • Luxury retail and gifting
  • Jewellery and watch presentation
  • Premium electronics
  • Limited-edition releases

Most orders here come from gifting and events, retail and grocery, apparel and accessories brands.

    What goes wrong

Three problems that account for most jewellery box complaints.

    1. A slot sized to the piece at rest rather than to the piece being inserted and removed.
    2. A pendant pad with no chain channel, so the chain tangles in the box.
    3. Choosing a lining for appearance without checking how it marks after handling.

      Custom Jewellery Boxes Questions

How precise does the insert need to be?

Very. A slot slightly loose lets the piece move and scuff; slightly tight makes it awkward to remove in front of a customer. Send the actual piece — this tolerance cannot be judged from a description.

      Which lining should I choose?

Velvet, suede-effect and satin all feel different and mark differently over time. Lining affects perceived value more than the outer board does, so it is worth handling samples before deciding.

Can you produce boxes for chains and pendants?

Yes. Pendant boxes need a chain channel as well as a pad, or the chain tangles before the box reaches the customer. It is the detail most often missed.

      Do you make watch boxes?

Yes. Watches need a cushion sized to the strap circumference rather than the case, and the cushion firmness matters — too soft and the watch sits at an angle.

      Can jewellery boxes be posted?

Only inside a protective outer. A presentation box on its own will arrive scuffed, and the box is part of what the customer is paying for.

Can you produce a matching range across pieces?

Yes, and it is worth planning together — a common outer construction with different inserts per piece type keeps the range coherent and avoids tooling each box separately.

Is a magnetic closure worth it?

On jewellery, usually yes. The closure is part of the opening moment, and at these small sizes a magnet adds proportionally little cost.

What is the minimum order for jewellery boxes?

A flat 100 units on any format. Rigid construction means the cost per unit falls more slowly with volume than on a folding carton.

Can you print inside the lid?

Yes, and on jewellery it is often the most valuable print area — it is what the customer sees at the moment of opening.

How much do jewellery boxes cost?

From $0.30 per piece at large volumes for simple formats, but rigid construction, lining and fitted inserts put most jewellery work well above that. We quote each element separately.
