What candle labels have to cope with

Candle Labels hold labelling on a candle vessel, applied to glass and exposed to heat in use. That is the starting point for the specification, because a candle vessel gets warm. A general-purpose adhesive softens and the label edge lifts partway through the burn.

In service they are used for candle retail where the label stays on the vessel throughout its burning life.

Where candle labels are actually used

Candle Labels are specified for candle retail where the label stays on the vessel throughout its burning life. A candle vessel gets warm. A general-purpose adhesive softens and the label edge lifts partway through the burn.

    • Candle retail where the label stays on the vessel throughout its burning life
    • Product identification on retail shelves
    • Ingredient and compliance panels
    • Jar and bottle branding

    The substrate for candle labels

A synthetic face with a heat-tolerant adhesive rated for the vessel temperature in use.

The options we would consider for this format are below; a candle vessel gets warm. A general-purpose adhesive softens and the label edge lifts partway through the burn.

    • White BOPP film
    • Clear BOPP film
    • Textured uncoated paper
    • Estate label paper
    • Silver metallised film

    Printing candle labels

Fragrance and burn-time information both matter to buyers, and safety copy is usually required alongside.

Digital label press, Flexography, Screen printing for heavy ink lay are all available for this format. Run length usually decides which is cheapest: digital removes the plate cost on short quantities, offset and flexo overtake it at volume.

    What moves the price

Four things drive a quote more than anything else: the quantity, the print route, the board grade and the number of finishing passes. Dimensions matter too, but usually through how efficiently the shape nests on the press sheet.

Prices start from $0.30 per piece for large-volume orders. If a cheaper route exists we say so at quoting rather than after the invoice.

    Finishing candle labels

Fragrance and burn-time information both matter to buyers, and safety copy is usually required alongside.

Every finish listed here is its own pass through the line, so each one is priced on its own rather than folded into a single figure.

    • Gloss laminate
    • Matte laminate
    • Foil stamping
    • Spot UV
    • Textured varnish

    Sizing candle labels

Sized to the flat area of the vessel, which on a tapered jar is less than it appears.

Send the contents rather than a box size. The label is specified for glass without accounting for the vessel warming during use.

    Getting artwork press-ready

Supply vector artwork with a clearly marked cut line as a separate spot colour, and hold text 2 mm inside the die.

Supply a print-ready PDF or vector file with fonts outlined and images at 300 dpi. Our prepress team checks every file before a proof is issued. On a die-cut face the check that matters most is clearance between live copy and the cut edge.

    What we need from you

Start with dimensions and quantity. If you already run something similar, a physical sample tells us more in a minute than a specification does in a page.

A dieline template follows, sized to your product. Prepress checks your artwork against it and issues a proof; nothing runs until you sign that off.

    Checking it before you commit

Foil, soft-touch and deboss all read differently in person than on a screen, so we recommend a printed prototype rather than a digital proof alone for anything finish-led.

Sample costs are normally credited against the production order.

      In practice

      Why buyers specify this format

Fitted to what goes in it

Sized to the flat area of the vessel, which on a tapered jar is less than it appears.

      The failure we design out

The label edge lifts from heat as the candle burns down and warms the glass.

The setting it is built for

Specified for candle retail where the label stays on the vessel throughout its burning life.

      What decides the job

A candle vessel gets warm. A general-purpose adhesive softens and the label edge lifts partway through the burn.

This format sits in our custom labels range, alongside 15 other made-to-order formats.

      Answers

      Candle Labels: questions buyers ask

Specification, minimums and lead times for candle labels.

Will candle labels survive the candle burning?

Only with a heat-tolerant adhesive. The vessel warms considerably as the candle burns down and a general-purpose adhesive softens, lifting the label edge partway through its life.

How do I measure a bottle for its carton?

At the widest point, which is frequently not the base, and including the cap or pump. Send us the actual container if you can — a measurement from a drawing misses flex and applied label thickness, and both decide whether candle labels close cleanly.

How much panel space do ingredient lists need?

More than most brands allow for. Ingredient copy and any warnings compete directly with the design, and adding them late usually forces a reflow. We block the area on the dieline before you commit design time.

How exactly can you match our brand colour?

On offset and flexo we hold the ink formulation, which gives a tight match run to run. Digital has a wider tolerance. If exact consistency across repeat runs matters more than short-run economics, we will quote the litho route.

What surface will the labels be applied to?

It matters more than most buyers expect. Adhesive keys differently to glass, coated card, matte plastic and cold or damp surfaces. Tell us the substrate and the application temperature and we will match the adhesive.

Can I see a sample first?

Yes. We can send a plain unprinted sample so you can check the fit and structure, or a printed prototype for colour and finish. Sample costs are normally credited against the production order. Ask for the printed prototype rather than the plain sample if the question is finish — soft-touch, foil and deboss all read differently in the hand than on a screen.

Can you match packaging we already use?

Send the current specification or a physical sample and we will quote to match it rather than proposing an alternative you would then have to re-approve internally. A physical sample tells us more than a specification sheet — board caliper and coating are usually described loosely and measured exactly.

      Where do you deliver?

All 50 US states, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, on the same timeline everywhere: 3 to 5 business days of production after artwork approval, then 5 to 7 business days in transit. Every run is made to order and shipped directly to your address rather than pulled from stock, so you receive current production rather than whatever has been sitting in a warehouse. Freight is costed separately by weight, volume and destination. Roll-form work travels well and takes very little space, so freight is rarely the deciding cost on this format even at high quantities.

Can I order candle labels in a custom size?

Every run is cut to your dimensions — there are no stock sizes here. Send the product measurements rather than a box size and we will build the label around them, then send a dieline template you can design onto.

What happens after I approve the quote?

We issue a dieline template sized to your product, prepress checks your artwork against it, and a proof comes back for sign-off. Nothing runs until you approve that proof, and labels then take 3 to 5 business days.

Can you hold the specification for repeat orders?

Yes. Once a first run is approved we hold the board, structure, dimensions, print method and finishes against your account, so a reorder references the same specification exactly rather than being re-derived. That includes the ink formulation, which is what keeps a brand colour consistent between runs rather than drifting a shade each time.

Do you offer recycled or recyclable options?

Recycled grades are available across most of the substrates we run for labels. Recycled content, kerbside recyclability and certified compostability are three different claims though, so tell us which one you intend to print.
